AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY /RELAY FOR LIFE AT UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA TO HOLD BENEFIT FUNDRAISER IN WILLIAMSBURG
The American Cancer Society / Relay For Life at the University of Virginia will be sponsoring a benefit fundraiser entitled Williamsburg’s Concert For A Cure – Musicians United Against Cancer on Saturday, 10 March 2012 at the Sportsmans Grille, 240 McLaws Circle, in the Market Place Shopping Center, Kingsmill. There is no cover charge, but donations are heartily encouraged, and several raffles and sale of Relay For Life T-shirts and other items will go on during the day. Wearing of the color purple, the Relay For Life program color, is encouraged (but not required) for those attending.
Casey Duggan, 2010 Bruton High School graduate and UVA second year is the UVA Relay For Life Corporate Sponsorship Chair. Ms. Duggan, along with her father, musician Joseph Duggan, are organizing the benefit, which will begin at noon and run until 9:30 pm, and include performances by some of Williamsburg’s premier musicians and groups. This is the 10th anniversary of Relay For Life at UVA, and the organization is hoping to raise $100,000 for the American Cancer Society.
The event will begin with an open mic/jam from noon until 2:00, so that any interested musicians can play and support the cause. A sign-up sheet will be available at 11:00 am. Scheduled performances begin at 2:30 pm featuring :
2:30 – 3:15: Bagels and Fraylox Klezmer Band
3:30 – 4:15: In Layman Terms (Classic Rock)
4:30 – 5:15: Mark Mason and Friends (Acoustic Variety)
5:30 – 6:15: Dodge City Country Band (Classic Country)
6:30 – 7:15: Joe’s Day Off (Variety)
7:30 – 8:15 Dog Street Rhythm Kings (Traditional Jazz)
8:30 – 9:15 Mixed Bag (Classic Rock/ Blues)
9:15 – 9:30 Finale
Throughout the day, Steve Genakos, proprieter of Sportsmans Grille, will have his regular menu of great food available for purchase.
